Paramore Rises to Success with ‘Twilight’

Paramore was a band that had a dedicated fan base, however when the movie ‘Twilight’ hit theaters, they became a hit band that everyone wanted to hear. During the scenes in which Paramore was featured during the film, the hard rock edge, with the sad vocals of lead singer, Hayley Williams, had everyone wanting more. More of the tangled love between lead characters, Bella and Edward, accompanied with more vocals from Paramore.

Paramore Success with Twilight SoundtrackBefore the success that Paramore experienced with the movie, the band was literally on the verge of breaking up. Their first album “Riot” was released in 2007. Many shows and people focused on Williams, making her the center of attention, which in turn, affected the bad negatively. Other members found that they were not being as appreciated as much as they felt they should be. Due to this negativity the band canceled six of their shows in 2008. They used the down time to work on their issues and problems among the members. However, they came back together, stronger than ever, thanks to touring with No Doubt, who helped shed perspective on all the chaos that was erupting between the band members. Since No Doubt is very similar to Paramore in the fact that the band members all are men and the lead singer is a woman, Paramore was able to find balance amongst its members.

Thankfully, for all us ‘Twilight’ fans, they were able to put aside their differences to perform the two hit songs, ‘Decode’ and ‘I Caught Myself’. The use of these songs during the movie enhanced every emotion people experienced. With lyrics that say, “The truth is hiding in your eyes and its hanging on your tongue, just boiling in my blood, but you think that I can’t see what kind of man that you are, if you are a man at all, I will figure this one out on my own” (Decode) its easy to see how a perfect fit it was with the movie and the whole Bella-Edward relationship.

The other song featured in the movie, ‘I Caught Myself’ helped add emotions to Edward, since it was a song that seems to be written specifically to portray the feelings Edward felt. In fact, it was. Both songs Paramore performed for the ‘Twilight’ soundtrack were specifically written for it. Lead singer, Williams, read the books and then decided to write a song to portray the relationships. With lyrics such as, “Your pushing and pulling me down to you, but I don’t know what I want. No, I don’t know what I want”, it speaks volumes of the conflicting feelings Edward is having towards Bella.

Due to the overwhelming popularity of ‘Twilight’, many people bought the soundtrack which included these two songs from Paramore. Then suddenly, Paramore become part of the ‘Twilight’ fan base. A fan base that is not limited to the United States, as ‘Twilight’ fever is felt around the world. Due to this the band has been able to not only carry over their loyal fan base, but attract new comer’s as well. The success of their second album, “Brand New Eyes”, shows. It became number two on the Billboard album chart.

Despite critics saying that Paramore would not be able to handle the success that ‘Twilight’ brought them, they have indeed proven themselves to be an artistic and talented group of performers.

  1. … It’s funny that you say Riot was their first album. That picture you used was from the album “All We Know is Falling”, 2005.
